Press release date: November 18, 2011

People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

The Security Industry Association (SIA), an accredited standards developer and member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced the appointment of Don Erickson as the organization's next CEO. He previously served as SIA's government relations director, since 2006.

In his former position Mr. Erickson served as SIA's chief advocate before Congress and government agencies and implemented key SIA public policy initiative. He serves as SIA's representative to the Department of Homeland Security Emergency Services Sector Advisory Committee and the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Stakeholder Communications Committee.

Prior to SIA, Mr. Erickson was manager of legislative affairs for Alcatel, and legislative director for the Organization for the Promotion and Advancement of Small Telecommunications Companies (OPASTCO). He spent six years on the senior legislative staff of U.S. Senator Rod Grams (R-Minn.), where he facilitated the enactment of legislation pertaining to telecommunications and technology policy. He is a graduate of the Catholic University of America.

SIA is a trade group for businesses in the electronic and physical security market. Among other activities on behalf of its members and constituents, the organization advocates pro-industry policies and legislation on the state and national levels, creates open industry standards that enable integration, and advanced industry innovation and professionalism through research, education, and training.
