ANSI organizational member and accredited standards developer the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) has announced the appointment of Megan Lehtonen to the newly created position of director of program development.

Ms. Lehtonen joins IAPMO from her previous position as president and co-founder of GreenPlumbers USA. She will continue the work she started there in 2009 as part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IAPMO and GreenPlumbers USA. This MoU called for the establishment of GreenPlumbers India, a national training and accreditation program designed to assist Indian plumbing contractors and engineers in understanding their role in environmental conservation and public health. Ms. Lehtonen will also work on the creation and fostering of GreenPlumbers China.

These two international GreenPlumbers programs will train and deploy thousands of plumbing engineers and contractors to promote the benefits of water conservation and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, ultimately seeking a cultural change in consumer and plumbing behavior through the use of energy efficiency and water saving technologies. In her former role as president, Ms. Lehtonen supervised GreenPlumbers USA's operations and directed licensing and install programs. She is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
