The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), an organizational member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), is pleased to announce the appointment of James L. Cigler as director of product certification and verification. He will oversee the organization's ongoing and new appliance rating certification and verification programs.

Mr. Cigler previously served as manager of conformity assessment programs for the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). Prior to that he served as chief of the national Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and held several engineering support and management positions at the Department of the Navy. He holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from Old Dominion University and an M.S. in technical management from The Johns Hopkins University.

AHAM is a non-profit trade association representing manufacturers of major, portable, and floor-care home appliances, and suppliers to the industry. The organization currently administers performance certification and verification programs for room air conditioners, dehumidifiers, and room air cleaners, and is developing programs for refrigerators and freezers and portable air conditioners.
