People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.
The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced the appointment of Sandra Afes as vice president of finance.

Ms. Afes has 30 years of experience leading associations in the financial arena, most recently as the chief financial officer for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). Prior to that she served as the chief financial officer for the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA), a not-for-profit association in Arlington, Virginia. Earlier in her career Ms. Afes worked as an auditor for Arthur Andersen in Boston.

"We're fortunate at TIA that Sandy - who has such depth of experience in non-profit finance - agreed to come on board," said TIA president Grant Seiffert. "She will help strengthen TIA as we face the economic challenges that currently confront all non-profit associations and businesses alike."

Ms. Afes has a master's of business administration as well as a juris doctorate from New York University, and she holds a CPA license.

The Telecommunications Industry Association represents the global information and communications technology (ICT) industry through standards development, advocacy, trade shows, business opportunities, market intelligence, and world-wide environmental regulatory analysis.
