Press release date: August 14, 2009

People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced the appointment of Cheryl Blum as vice president for standards and business development. Ms. Blum brings extensive experience in all areas of telecom systems including software development, systems engineering, and network architecture, and has been active in TIA global standards development for 15 years.

Ms. Blum previously held various positions with Alcatel-Lucent (formerly AT&T Bell Laboratories and Lucent Technologies) for 30 years, most recently as senior manager. She joins the staff of TIA with a wealth of experience already established with the organization: Ms. Blum currently is the chair of TIA's engineering committee on mobile and personal communications systems standards and was also recently elected as the vice-chair of the wireless communications division. She also represents TIA as the head of delegation to the 3rd Generation Partnership Project 2 and is the project's steering committee chair.

Ms. Blum's focus has been in the areas of wireless core network development, including its evolution to IP-based networks, and in developing public safety/homeland security standards. "Standards development is one of TIA's core missions, and we're fortunate to be able to bring in someone of Cheryl's outstanding caliber," said TIA president Grant Seiffert.
