People on the Move

People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials, a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has named Dwight Perkins as director of field operations and Don Swords as Region 8 field manager.
They replace Linden Raimer who held the two positions concurrently before his retirement at the end of 2008.

In his new role, Mr. Perkins will promote the adoption of the Uniform Plumbing Code and the Uniform Mechanical Code - with both 2009 editions expected in March - nationwide, by ensuring a smooth transition from the earlier editions or other codes.

Mr. Perkins will continue to serve as field manager of Region 1 - comprised of the six most western states, including Alaska and Hawaii - a post he has held since 2002.

As field manager of Region 8, Mr. Swords will represent IAPMO's interests in seven southeastern states: Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia and Florida.

With thirty-eight years in the plumbing / mechanical industry, he most recently concluded his five consecutive terms as plumbers' business agent for the United Association Local Union 72 in Atlanta. Since 2006, he is chairman of the plumbing division of the Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB) for the State of Georgia, to which he was appointed by Gov. Zell Miller in 1998.
