People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced the appointment of Kevin Messner as vice president of government relations. In this position, he will be responsible for directing and implementing AHAM's legislative, regulatory, political and grassroots programs, and for advancing the association's advocacy efforts.

Prior to joining AHAM, Mr. Messner served as associate administrator of the Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs at the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA). He also worked in the U.S. House of Representatives for nearly ten years.

Formerly an engineer with General Motors, Mr. Messner earned a BS in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin, and a master's degree in international finance from the Thunderbird School of Global Management.

AHAM has also announced the appointment of Matthew B. Williams as its director of standards.

A seasoned expert of the standards process, Mr. Williams will be responsible for the development, management and accreditation of AHAM's twenty performance standards. Additionally, he will provide technical assistance and advocacy to the organization's efforts related to external standards.

The current vice chairman of ANSI's Organizational Members Forum, Mr. Williams has also served as director of standardization for the Aerospace Industries Association, and held various positions at the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA).

He earned a BS in psychology from Mary Washington College, and a master's degree from Averett College.
