Paul R. Beswick Honored at WPI Presidential Founders Dinner
Paul R. Beswick, founder, President and CEO of Beswick Engineering Co Inc, was honored by Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) at the annual Presidential Founders dinner on November 16th, 2006. Established in 1986, the Presidential Founders award recognizes and honors those whose financial contributions to WPI equals or exceeds John Boynton's original founding gift of $100,000. John Boynton founded WPI in 1865 as one of the earliest technology/engineering focused universities in the United States of America.
Paul graduated from WPI in '57 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Paul began his professional career at ITEK in Lexington, Massachusetts where he worked on high altitude surveillance cameras for the United States government. In 1964, he founded Beswick Engineering Inc. as a small engineering consulting firm located in Beverly, Massachusetts. Paul's consulting activities eventually lead to the design and manufacture of miniature valves, fittings and other fluid power products.
Over the past 42 years, Beswick has developed hundreds of fluid power products. The customer base has grown to well over 1,000 customers and includes "high tech" customers throughout the world. Beswick Engineering has become a leader in the miniature fluid power industry and is well known for developing innovative applications. Today, Beswick is headquartered in Greenland, New Hampshire and operates a branch office in Singapore which supports a growing customer base in Asia.
Beswick holds over a dozen patents and many industry firsts. Beswick was the first to design precision O-ring glands into miniature pneumatic fittings. Beswick also originated the "line contact" barb and the most compact diaphragm regulators in the industry. The company provides the largest range of 303 and 316 miniature stainless steel fittings in the world. Beswick's "PRD2" pressure regulator won Product Design & Development magazine's Engineering Silver Award for the best new product in 2005. When it comes to innovation, engineering excellence, custom design and support, Beswick Engineering is unmatched in the industry.
Paul Beswick's life and career have taken many interesting turns throughout the years. He serves as a trustee of Berwick Academy and a member of the executive committee. He also serves on the advisory board for the Management Department's Collaborative for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
