W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa.-Papers are invited for the Sixth Symposium on Application of Automation Technology in Fatigue and Fracture Testing and Analysis. Sponsored by ASTM International Committee E08 on Fatigue and Fracture, the symposium will be held May 22-23, 2013, in Indianapolis, Ind., in conjunction with the May standards development meetings of the committee.

The ongoing rapid advancement of digital systems hardware and software technology continues to provide new opportunities for scientists and engineers in fatigue and fracture testing and analysis. The symposium will continue the exchange of information at the international level on computer technology applications in fatigue and fracture testing and analysis. The goal of this symposium is to provide an international forum for knowledge exchange on recent achievements in the following technical areas:

  • General software and hardware developments in automated materials testing systems and methods;
  • Service loads monitoring and analysis as well as service spectrum generation and simulation;
  • Variable amplitude spectrum load testing methods, test control and techniques;
  • Cost effective and efficient advanced or new methods for generating test data;
  • Analysis and simulation of fatigue life of components;
  • Modeling as a tool in fatigue and fracture testing and analysis;
  • Applications of advanced software systems in fatigue and fracture; and
  • Laboratory automation and information management systems.

    To participate in the symposium, presenters/authors must submit and attach a 250-300 word preliminary abstract no later than April 30, 2012. The abstract must include a clear definition of the objective and approach of the work discussed, pointing out material that is new, and present sufficient details regarding results. The presentation and manuscript must not be of a commercial nature nor can it have been previously published. The symposium co-chairmen will notify you in writing by July 23, 2012, of your paper's acceptability for presentation at the symposium.

    Symposium presenters are required to submit their papers to the Selected Technical Paper (STP), an online and printed, peer-reviewed publication for the international scientific and engineering community. After the final selection of abstracts has been approved, the ASTM Editorial Office will send authors' instructions via email only. Manuscripts to be peer reviewed for the STP are due online no later than April 30, 2013, at the ASTM Editorial Office.

    Visit www.astm.org/E08Automation.htm for abstract submittal and additional information.

    Additional technical information about the symposium is available from symposium co-chairmen Peter C. McKeighan, Exponent, Warrenville, Ill. (phone: 630-658-7511; pmckeighan@exponent.com); or Arthur A. Braun, Bose Corp., Columbia, Mo. (phone: 573-474-1005; art_braun@bose.com).
