Papers are Invited for ASTM Symposium on Advances in Steel Technologies for Rolling Bearings



W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa.–Papers are invited for the 10th ASTM International Symposium on Advances in Steel Technologies for Rolling Bearings, to be held May 6-7, 2014, at the Sheraton Toronto in Toronto, Canada. Sponsored by ASTM International Committee A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel and Related Alloys, the symposium will be held in conjunction with the standards development meetings of the committee.



The objective of the symposium is to bring together rolling bearing steel practitioners to present the latest developments in rolling bearing steels and testing. Papers from steelmakers, semi-finished and finished bearing steel component producers, rolling bearing producers and development institutes will be encouraged. Papers are invited on but not limited to the following topics:

• New steel technologies for use in hybrid bearings;

• Advanced steel technologies for use in wind turbine rolling bearings;

• Bearing steelmaking process developments related to cost and quality (value);

• Bearing steel quality assessment developments;

• Steel internal cleanliness effects on the service life performance;

• Developments in ultrasound testing methodologies;

• New alloy and heat treatment developments;

• Latest information on bearing steel/rolling bearing functional testing methods and practices; and

• Material factors in bearing life prediction models, effects of cleanliness, alloy additions and microstructure.



The information in the symposium papers will be novel enough to benefit experienced/specialist bearing steel technologists and wide–ranging enough to benefit newcomers. The steel and bearing producers and users will have the opportunity to learn about new developments in testing and also about added value opportunities from various steelmakers, rolling bearing producers, and research and development service providers.



To participate in the symposium, presenters/authors must submit a 250-300 word preliminary abstract by May 6, 2013. The abstract must include a clear definition of the objective and approach of the work discussed, pointing out material that is new, and present sufficient details regarding results. The presentation and manuscript must not be of a commercial nature nor can it have been previously published. The symposium chairman will notify you by July 8, 2013, of your paper’s acceptability for presentation at the symposium.
