Press release date: February 17, 2011

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa.-Papers are invited for the 32nd Symposium on Pesticide Formulation and Delivery: Innovating Legacy Products for New Uses, to be held Nov. 1-3, 2011, at the Marriot Waterside Tampa in Tampa, Fla. Sponsored by ASTM Committee E35 on Pesticides and Alternative Control Agents, the symposium will be held in conjunction with the October standards development meetings of the committee.

The symposium title is based on the concept that new genetically engineered crops will soon be commercialized that feature resistance to 2,4-D and dicamba, two of the oldest herbicides still registered in the United States. Both products present significant environmental challenges because of drift, and substantial work is being done to innovate these products and make the entire technology package sustainable. In addition, papers are encouraged to be submitted on new biopesticide and adjuvant products or components, advances in application technology, regulatory updates and direction, and potential test methods.

Papers are also invited on the following topics:
  • Session 1- Innovations in Dicamba and 2,4-D formulations and delivery
  • Session 2- Regulatory updates and direction
  • Session 3- Biopesticide developments
  • Session 4- Formulation components and advances
  • Session 5- Adjuvants
  • Session 6- Test Methods
  • Session 7- Drift Reduction

Interested participants must submit a 250-300 word abstract by March 25, 2011. The abstract must include a clear definition of the objective and approach of the work discussed, pointing out material that is new, and present sufficient details regarding results. The presentation and manuscript must not be of a commercial nature nor can it have been previously published. Symposium chairman Mark L. Bernards will notify you via postal mail by April 8, 2011, of your paper's acceptability for presentation at the symposium.

Symposium presenters are required to submit their papers to the Journal of ASTM International (JAI). JAI is an online, peer-reviewed journal for the international scientific and engineering community. You may access information about JAI at www.astm.org/JAI. Manuscripts to be peer reviewed for JAI are due online no later than Oct. 18, 2011, at the ASTM Editorial Office.
