Brainchild 18-Channel Recorder with Built-In LCD Display
CHESTERLAND OH - Educators and students working in laboratories and classrooms in universities across the country often make do with using older paper chart recorder technology to record their live data onto hard copy. However, this makes it difficult to search through the information and organize it all. CAS DataLoggers together with high-quality manufacturer Brainchild has the solution with the VR-18 Paperless Chart Recorder, a high resolution (true VGA, 640x480 pixels) 18-channel data logger featuring an infrared detector, plug & play I/O card, high flexibility, and user-friendly operation, all in a compact size. Thanks to paperless chart recording technology, students and teachers are now able to clearly and conveniently visualize their experimental data.
For example, thermochemistry, the study of heat and energy associated with chemical reactions or physical transformations, is a perfect lab experiment application for the Brainchild. Able to handle multiple inputs, the datalogger provides useful information for experiments involving the heating of various liquids at a variety of volumes. Users now have the ability to monitor their live data and store all the information on the Brainchild itself or on a connected PC. From there, the data logger insures that their processes are completed at the correct parameters and can also send out alerts if the data exceeds preset levels.
Paperless chart recording is a much more user-friendly solution with an interactive dialogue simplifying both setup and operation procedures. Multiple function keys make navigation a snap and also allow users to quickly scroll backward to review historical trends. The Brainchild also entirely eliminates the need to search through large amounts of hard copy records to find earlier data. Using the recorder's benchtop/portable configurations and panel mount, the VR-18 is an effective stand-alone solution to monitor, record, and evaluate processes in the laboratory, classroom or out in the field.
The Brainchild's built-in display allows teachers and students to get a clear review of all measured data on its 6.4' VGA Color LCD display with flexible screen configuration. Students view the collected data in the display format or choose additional formats including vertical trend, horizontal trend, bar graph, and numerical. The recorder offers a fast sampling rate within 200msec for all channels and high accuracy with up to 18 universal input channels to connect to a variety of sensors commonly used in lab environments including DC voltage output from specialty sensors and thermocouples/RTDs to log temperatures with extreme precision. A single complex experiment or several individual experiments using multiple sensors can easily be monitored given the Brainchild's capability to record real-time inputs during one session. After the experiment is completed, the class can view statistics from the recorded data including instant, average, min and max values. Six plug and play I/O card slots are standard, and all readings are saved on the removable Compact Flash memory card's 128MB storage space for archiving or transfer to a PC. Data retention is no concern, specified at a minimum of 10 years with zero power data retention.
Additionally, the Brainchild's standard Ethernet and optional RS-232/RS-422/RS485 communication enable users to access data onsite from a remote location via the RS serial interface or Ethernet networking. The VR-18 Paperless Chart Recorder can be connected to a PC with an Ethernet cable allowing students to use the Brainchild's FREE software, allowing for streaming live data or downloading the data to an Excel spreadsheet to further manipulate the information for reports and assignments. Teachers can set up the display to a projector, allowing an entire class to view the data representations, and students can print the data collected from any of the display formats.
The Brainchild's programmable alarms and messages give instant notification of high levels of temperature and other critical events. The device lists all alarm records clearly with useful information and also reminds the user of the alarm status in different colors. Users can browse through the alarm list or acknowledge alarms easily via function keys on the vertical bar.
