o Innovative Method Scans and Reports in Less Than a Minute

o New Technology Detects Hidden Threats That Other Methods Routinely Miss

GLENDALE, Calif., March 15 // -- Panda today announced the release of their newest online scanning engine, NanoScan, (www.nanoscan.com) designed to verify the infection status of a system in less than a minute. Reactions from users are a mixture of joy and disbelief. "How is it possible to scan my PC through an online engine and get an accurate report in less than 60 seconds?" Users are heavily accustomed to conventional online scans that take an hour or more, sometimes disconnecting partway through the scan, and other discouraging experiences. Panda Software today declared NanoScan marks the end of that long, national nightmare in which too many users leave their systems in a precarious state rather than suffer through an online checkup.

The most common initial perception of NanoScan users is "it seems too good to be true," and an exam taking as little as 20 seconds "must not be very comprehensive." But this is precisely the beauty of the new methods used by NanoScan as it processes thousands of files almost instantly, detecting any and all malware in active memory or in the most commonly exploited areas of an end-user's operating system.

Not just a cursory exam, NanoScan checks against the most comprehensive malware database available today, containing more than 600,000 threats. The immense capacity is thanks to Panda's new 'Anti-malware Collective Intelligence' system, which leverages detection of malware on systems across the globe. Ironically, the ever-increasing size of anti-malware databases is one of the key drivers behind Panda's development of super-fast methodologies. Panda had foreseen that digital vandals and Internet criminals would eventually win the day simply by overwhelming systems with signature files too large to be of practical use, unless something radically new and different were done.

Comprehensiveness and speed work together and neither can be sacrificed in the war against spammers, Trojan writers, and intruders. It is also essential not to rely on users updating their antivirus on a regular basis. The online Web 2.0 approach of NanoScan is therefore perfectly suited to today's reality. No software is installed on the end-user's system; NanoScan operates through the Internet using ActiveX and an extremely small download of only 400KB, hence the term "Nano."

Because it is globally centralized on Panda's servers, all users transparently and effortlessly enjoy the world's most up-to-date anti-malware signature file. For new and unknown threats, NanoScan also incorporates Panda's TruPrevent(TM) technologies, capable of detecting malicious code without a signature file. Thanks to this approach, NanoScan is capable of detecting malware samples that have slipped past the defenses of many other antivirus solutions.

The timing of NanoScan could not be better, given today's identity-theft oriented environment. For example, a quick visit to NanoScan is recommended before accessing online banking services or making similar online transactions, to ensure there are no active keyloggers or Trojans interfering. Panda Software's new security approach moves the industry one large step forward, based on three main pillars:

1. Collection of data from the Web community. Panda's collective intelligence system gathers and stores behavioral patterns of programs, file traces, new malware samples, and so on, from a combination of Panda users, other companies, and collaborators. A massive data center with the ability to collect and immediately process malware information provides much greater visibility into threats that are active on the Internet on a minute-by-minute basis.

2. Automated data processing. The newly developed procedures in PandaLabs data centers automatically analyze and classify thousands of new samples received daily. There is no backlog and in fact Panda is requesting any unanalyzed malware from any source to be contributed to the system. The system automatically returns verdicts as to "malware or goodware" on all new files received; the number of code analysis tasks that must be carried manually is reduced to a bare minimum.

3. Leveraging global knowledge. The knowledge contained in PandaLabs system is delivered instantly to any and all users as Web-based services or through signature file updates. The most important impact of this system is the reduction in the levels of infections throughout entire networks of end users, putting another well-deserved stake into the heart of organized crime.
