ODON, Ind. (July 10, 2008)- Pliant Corporation, a manufacturer and distributor of plastic films and packaging products, announced today it will expand its production capacity here, creating as many as 12 new jobs by 2010.
The Illinois-based company, which supplies packaging films and wraps for the food and beverage, pet supplies, personal care and automotive markets, will invest $1.5 million to add two multi-layer blown film extrusion lines at the company's facility on East 1250 North.
"More and more companies are recognizing that Indiana is a great place to do business, and we're glad Pliant selected Indiana for this expansion," said Governor Mitch Daniels."
Pliant, which employs more than 35 at its Odon operations, will begin hiring machine operators, maintenance and shipping personnel immediately to meet increased production demands later this summer.
"Pliant is pleased to expand our already-successful operations in Indiana," said Tom Bowden, Pliant's vice president of operations. "We would like to thank the state and Daviess County for offering favorable economic incentives, which made Indiana the right place for Pliant to grow."
Pliant employs about 2,900 workers at more than 20 manufacturing facilities across three continents. With brands including Bullseye, Stratos and Crystal Cling, the company earns annual revenues exceeding $1 billion.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Pliant Corporation up to $45,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $17,000 in training grants based on the company's job creation plans. Daviess County will provide property tax abatement.
"We are thrilled to have Pliant in our community and are excited for the growth they are exhibiting," said Eric Lane, chairman of the Daviess County Economic Development Council. "They have been a great corporate partner and we look forward to their continued growth in Daviess County."
Pliant Corporation's decision to expand in southern Indiana comes less than three months after Indianapolis-based Golden Rule Insurance Company announced plans to grow their nearby Vincennes operations, creating more than 200 new jobs.
