Pacific Rim Summit to Highlight Novel Biotech Applications for Bioenergy

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Thursday, September 24, 2009) - Biotechnology companies pursuing new sources of bioenergy and green products will highlight the industry's progress at the 2009 Pacific Rim Summit on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy, to be held Nov. 8-11, 2009 in Honolulu. The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) today announced speakers for the plenary sessions to be delivered at the 2009 Pacific Rim Summit.

"Development of biotechnology applications for energy and chemicals has been shown to both reduce carbon emissions and provide opportunities for renewed economic growth. As the world emerges from the current economic recession, biotechnology companies are seeking to regain momentum in bringing advanced biofuels to market. Construction of the first advanced biofuel biorefineries is providing valuable knowledge and technology platforms for new chemicals and other sources of bioenergy, including algae," said Brent Erickson, executive vice president of BIO's Industrial and Environmental Section.
