PTR's Gary LaFlamme Named as a Counselor of the American Welding Society


Chicago, IL - November 14, 2011 - Contract Welding Manager, Gary LaFlamme, has been selected as a Counselor of the American Welding Society (AWS). This award was established in 1999 by the AWS to recognize individual members for a career of distinguished leadership and enhancing the image and impact of the welding industry. Election to Counselor of the AWS is based on an individual having been determined to have had a career of outstanding accomplishments in advancing the status of the welding industry. The award was presented by AWS President, John L. Mendoza at the Annual AWS meeting held in conjunction with the Fabtech 2011 Exposition in Chicago, IL.
Following is the formal proclamation of Gary's selection as a Counselor of the AWS:

"Gary LaFlamme has served the welding community and industry with great distinction as an individual whose career of distinguished organizational leadership has enhanced the image and impact of the welding industry."

"He has been a key contributor in the development of electron beam welding technologies that have expanded its scope and capabilities using high-vacuum, partial-vacuum, and non-vacuum processes. He was the first to successfully weld gamma titanium aluminide materials. Involved in welding and joining for more than 25 years, he has worked with many materials and material combinations to help U.S. industry stay competitive in the areas of medical and automotive high-speed welding.

LaFlamme has contributed substantially to the welding industry with his numerous presentations to American Welding Society (AWS) technical meetings, conferences, workshops, papers, and publications. He serves on the AWS C7 Committee on High Energy Beam Welding and Cutting and the C7B Subcommittee on Electron Beam Welding and Cutting. He has also coauthored papers presented at the International Institute of Welding Commission IV for High Energy Density Beam Welding.

He is recognized by the international electron beam welding community for his novel solutions and willingness to share information to help others improve their processes and designs.

Therefore, for his distinguished career, be it resolved he be selected as a Counselor of the American Welding Society."
