PMI Praises California's Lead Testing Results and Leadership in Protecting Safe Drinking Water

Rolling Meadows, IL - Plumbing Manufacturers International (PMI) members' products successfully passed the California Department of Toxic Substance Control (DTSC)'s first testing for reduced lead content in drinking water faucets, pipes and pipefittings. Of the manufacturers identified in the DTSC's report, four are PMI members and two of these are located in California.

PMI continues to support implementation and enforcement of the California bill that not only became state law, but also guided the way for the national "Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act" signed into law January 2011. California's Senate Majority Leader Ellen M. Corbett (D-San Leandro) authored the bill requiring product testing and praised the value of the testing required by this legislation.

"PMI continues to work closely with California's legislators and DTSC to reduce the maximum lead content to 0.25%," says Barbara C. Higgens, PMI's executive director. "We actively engaged the state DTSC in developing a fair and balanced testing methodology and support ongoing testing and certification to ensure all products meet the requirement. We congratulate our members for complying with this standard and their leadership in protecting consumers."
