PMA Educational Foundation Introduces Tool to Evaluate Job Applicants New to Metalworking Industry

CLEVELAND, OH-The Precision Metalforming Association (PMA) Educational Foundation is pleased to announce a newly developed and validated assessment designed to evaluate employment applicants that have no experience in metalworking. Modular in design, the 60-item, multiple-choice Occupational Aptitude and Knowledge Assessment covers mechanical and spatial aptitudes, mathematical reasoning and measurement, communications and information, and industry understanding and behaviors.

The assessment is a predictor of an applicant's potential to learn the job and his or her ability to function in today's precision manufacturing environment. It is ideal for those entering into manufacturing training programs; apprenticeships; or applying for job vacancies as equipment setup/operators, assemblers and entry-level maintenance technicians. Instructions, scoring templates, cut score recommendations and diagnostics are provided. Packaged in groups of 20 (versions A and B), the Occupational Aptitude and Knowledge Assessment is in English-a Spanish language package will be available at a later date.

The PMA Educational Foundation also offers the Metalworking Skills Assessment for job applicants with limited or prior experience in metalworking. However, not all applicants have metalworking experience, so the Occupational Aptitude and Knowledge Assessment is an appropriate alternative.

For more information about these assessments and other products from the PMA Educational Foundation, contact Bruce Broman at 216-901-8800 or bbroman@pma.org.

Established in 1996, the PMA Educational Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization dedicated to the promotion and development of a skilled workforce for the metalforming industry. PMAEF operates as a supporting organization to PMA.

PMA is the full-service trade association representing the $91-billion metalforming industry of North America-the industry that creates precision metal products using stamping, fabricating, spinning, slide forming and roll forming technologies, and other value-added processes. Its nearly 1,100 member companies also include suppliers of equipment, materials and services to the industry. PMA leads innovative member companies toward superior competitiveness and profitability through advocacy, networking, statistics, the PMA Educational Foundation, METALFORM tradeshows and MetalForming magazine.
