Press release date: January 10, 2008

January 10, 2008, Depew, NY, USA - PCB Piezotronics (PCB®) has announced the release of a new capabilities brochure, entitled, "Three-component Dynamic Force Sensors." The brochure highlights specific sensors and instrumentation for force limited vibration testing; measuring input forces for modal analysis and structural testing; assessing biomechanical ability; monitoring cutting tool forces; studying machine and engine mounts for imbalance or noise; and recording impact forces during drop and crash testing.

The sensors and systems highlighted in the new brochure represent some of the most popular units. Three-component dynamic force sensors are offered in both ICP® and charge output configurations for dynamic and quasi-static force measurement applications. Each uses an array of precision aligned, quartz sensing crystals.

Measurements along the z-axis are proportional to applied compression, tension, and impact forces. Measurements along the x- and y-axis are proportional to shear forces that are imposed upon preloaded crystals by the test fixture. Sensors may be used with ICP® signal conditioning and permit the use of a variety of inexpensive 2-wire cable systems. The low-impedance signal may be transmitted over long cable distances, and the sensors may be used in dirty environments with no signal degradation. Summing amplifiers are available allowing multiple Fx, Fy, and Fz sensor signals to be added together before being transmitted, thus saving money on data acquisition channels.

With more than 40 years of expertise in aerospace, automotive, industrial and related sensors and instrumentation, PCB® is a global leader in the design and manufacture of dynamic and static force sensors, as well as the pioneer of ICP® technology. Manufacturing operations are certified to ISO 9001:2000 and AS9100:2004, with calibration procedures accredited by A2LA to ISO 17025. With 24-hour customer support; direct sales offices throughout Europe and Asia; and an established global distribution network, PCB® attributes its continued growth to an unwavering commitment to Total Customer Satisfaction policy.
