Oxonica plc ("Oxonica"), a leading international nanomaterials group, today is pleased to announce that it has signed a follow-on research and development agreement with BD (NYSE: BDX) using Oxonica's Nanoplex(TM) technology. Under the terms of the agreement, BD will fund a new research program in order to continue further evaluation of the technology's feasibility.
Under the original 2006 licensing and investment agreement, BD subscribed to fund a joint research program focused on enabling Oxonica's technology to be potentially used in rapid diagnostics. "This new agreement continues BD's exploration of our Nanoplex(TM) technology, and enhances the development prospects of future innovative products," said Kevin Matthews, CEO of Oxonica.
"We are excited about the progression of our relationship and look forward to helping BD successfully achieve their research goals, while continuing to improve our quality and manufacturing systems," added Tamara St. Claire, VP of Business Development at Oxonica, Inc.
Oxonica's Nanoplex(TM) technology is based on a series of encapsulated gold nanoparticles, each with a unique spectral signature. These "labels" have the potential to be attached to a wide range of biological markers, thus enabling the possibility of a new diagnostic paradigm.
