Magazine Cites the Working Together Efforts
FORT WORTH, Texas, April 20 /-- Overhaul & Maintenance Magazine has honored American Airlines and the Transport Workers Union (TWU) with its Outstanding Achievement Award for their work together as partners to transform the airline's Maintenance & Engineering organization from a cost center to a profit center.
Bob Reding, Senior Vice President - Technical Operations, and John Conley, AA System Coordinator and International Representative - TWU Air Transport Division, were named recipients of the award, which honors executives, labor leaders and their organizations who have improved, or contributed significantly to the improvement, of the efficiency, profitability, reliability and/or safety of their company's Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) operation or of aviation MRO in general.
Reding and Conley received their awards at Aviation Week's annual MRO Conference & Exhibition in Atlanta this week. The event explores the future of aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul through a series of executive- level discussions drawing more than 5,500 industry professionals and government executives.
American and the TWU "have worked together as partners to transform the airline's maintenance and engineering organization from a cost center to a profit center," said Frank Jackman, editor of Overhaul & Maintenance Magazine.
"Through the collaboration of management and labor, and the implementation of a Continuous Improvement Process, American has reduced costs, improved efficiencies and significantly optimized operations and productivity over the past three years," Jackman noted.
"Management, front-line workers and the unions at American all understand that cooperation is necessary to achieve progress through sustained profitability," he said.
Jackman said Reding and Conley have helped create and guide American's M&E vision, which is to develop a world class MRO that provides value to its people, customers and owners.
