Press release date: November 28, 2012

Toronto, Canada - GAO Fiber Optics (www.GAOFiberOptics.com) is offering this optical visual fault locator for wavelength loss test, optical identification and fault location. This optical visual fault locator is a basic tool for the maintenance of fiber optic network systems including LAN, FDDI and ATM, telecommunications and CATV networks.

This optical visual fault locator, model C0280004, has a 650 nm visible laser source that transmits continuous light or 1 Hz strobe light into a fiber. It allows the user to visually detect a fiber fault over distances of up to 9 km. This fault locator features a pen-shaped design making it easy to carry.

This high performance visual fault locator is commonly used for quickly verifying continuity, checking the validity of patch cables and locating faults in the continuity of both single mode (SM) and multimode (MM) optical fibers. It uses universal adaptersIt is powered by two 1.5 V AA alkaline batteries allowing itto operate for up to 80 hours with modulated light and up to 50 hours with continuous light.

This optical visual fault locator belongs to GAO's family of Visual Fault Locators. This line also contains another two similar products which are suitable for network maintenance. The two featured products are Rugged Handheld Visual Fault Locator which is able to examine all kinds of patch cords, ribbons or bunched pigtails in the installation and maintenance of fiber optic networks and Handheld Visible Laser Source which overcomes the usual limitation of the dead zone of an OTDR to accurately detect fiber fault positions making it an ideal instrument for the installation and maintenance of optical networks.
