Ophir-Spiricon Achieves ISO/IEC 17025 Accreditation for Calibration of Laser Measurement Instruments

North Logan, UT - Ophir Photonics, global leader in precision laser measurement equipment and a Newport Corporation brand, is pleased to announce that Ophir-Spiricon is now ACLASS accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2005, the international standard that recognizes the technical competence of laboratories to carry out calibrations. ISO/IEC 17025:2005 is used by labs to develop management systems for quality, administration, and technical operations. Ophir-Spiricon's accredited calibration process minimizes unit-to-unit variation of the company's laser measurement equipment – thermal, photodiode, and pyroelectric laser sensors and meters – and reassures customers with a NIST-traceable series of measurements.

"ISO/IEC 17025 assures our customers that Ophir is calibrating their laser measurement equipment to the highest standards," said Gary Wagner, General Manager, Ophir Photonics (U.S.). "We go above and beyond the industry norm to ensure accuracy and repeatability. Our Gold Master laser sensors and meters are calibrated directly at NIST, ensuring traceability of all measurements. The Gold Masters are then used to verify the accuracy of the Silver Masters that are used in our laboratories around the world."

Ophir-Spricon's ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accreditation was carried out by ACLASS, a certification body of the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board. ACLASS is recognized across the globe as a leader in accreditation process development. Its assessors are experts from industry, the US government and military, and other accreditation bodies, both domestic and international.

"Ophir-Spiricon has the fastest calibration lead-time in the industry," stated Paul Harbath, Quality Manager, Ophir-Spiricon. "Our rigorous approach to quality management allows our customers to focus on their products and processes, confident that our laboratories have quickly reported accurate and verifiable results for their laser measurement equipment. In addition, ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation often means our customers can avoid protracted and expensive supplier auditing."
