One Week Remains until World Standards Week 2008

Only one week remains before the U.S. standards and conformity assessment community comes together for World Standards Week 2008 (WSW), which will be held in Bethesda, MD from October 20-23, 2008.

Hosted annually by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), WSW brings together members of the diverse U.S. standardization community, fostering a spirit of collaboration and celebration for a series of forums, meetings, and ceremonies.

This year's week-long series of events will include meetings of several ANSI groups and committees: the Patent Group, the International Policy Committee, the Intellectual Property Rights Policy Committee, and the Copyright Group. A number of fora will also meet during WSW 2008, including: the Company Member Forum, the Consumer Interest Forum, the Legal Issues Forum, the Joint Member Forum, the Organizational Member Forum, and the Government Member Forum.

Several members of the standards and conformity assessment community will be recognized for their achievements at the 2008 ANSI Awards Banquet and Ceremony, another element of the WSW series of events. ANSI's annual leadership and service awards program is a long-standing tradition that recognizes and honors the creativity, dedication and vision of those individuals who contribute to and participate in U.S. and global voluntary standards-setting and conformity assessment activities. Sixteen distinguished award recipients will be honored during the ceremony, which will be held on Wednesday, October 22.

The Annual Business Meeting and Luncheon will be held on Thursday, October 23. The meeting will marry an overview of ANSI's current pursuits and milestones with a celebration of the Institute's 90th anniversary, bringing the ANSI's past and future to the table in a discussion of the organization's growth and progress.

Also on Thursday will be the U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day (WSD), an evening exhibition, reception, and dinner that celebrate the standardization community with a focus on this year's theme, Intelligent and Sustainable Buildings. [see related article]

WSW will be held at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. For more information about WSW and WSD and to register for any of the events outlined above, visit http://www.ansi.org/wsweek.
