One Stop Systems and PLX Team up to Produce First Gen3 HDCA for Data Centers Operating HPC Applications

- Provides 73.3 Tflops of computational power using 16 NVIDIA K10 GPU accelerators

- Supports either one, two, or four servers over PCIe x16 Gen3 connections

- Employs a total of 23 PLX PCI Express Gen3 switches to provide full PCIe x16 Gen3 bandwidth to 16 boards

3U HDCA

Supercomputing Show, Denver, CO – One Stop Systems, Inc. (OSS), the leader in PCI Express® (PCIe®) expansion technology, today announced that it is working with  PLX Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLXT), the global leader in PCI switches, to deliver the first PCIe Gen3 expansion appliance- to support up to 16 high-end accelerator boards from a single or multiple servers. The 3U High-Density Compute Accelerator (HDCA™) provides up to 73.3 Tflops of computational power using NVIDIA™ Tesla™ K40, K20, or K10 GPU accelerators. The density of 23 ExpressLane™ PCIe switches provides necessary bandwidth to fully operate the 16 high-end GPUs.

The HDCA is a complete appliance, solving integration issues and making installation easy. The user simply connects the cable or cables to the host server(s) and has hundreds or thousands of additional compute cores readily available.

Visitors to Supercomputing Show (SC13) this week in Denver, CO, can view the HDCA in One Stop Systems' booth (#1137) or in PLX's booth (#3626).

"One Stop Systems has consistently produced ground-breaking products in the PCIe expansion market and the new 3U Gen3 High Density Compute  Accelerator sets the bar even higher," said Steve Cooper, One Stop Systems CEO. "Accelerators have had a natural evolution from the Gen2 1U and 2U products first introduced in 2009. Since then we've continued to lead the industry, producing even faster computational products. The 3U Gen3 HDCA utilizes the latest silicon available with expert design capabilities experienced in designing PCI Express expansion products. The result is the fastest computational device on the market today and the easiest to install and use. Because we have already configured the system with cutting-edge GPU accelerators, the time to get systems up and running is greatly minimized. This product is the dream of any data center manager."

"NVIDIA Tesla GPU accelerators are the highest-performance, most energy- efficient ones in use by HPC and supercomputing customers worldwide," said Sumit Gupta, general manager of Tesla Accelerated Computing products at NVIDIA. "OSS & PLX are providing customers a differentiated high-density system with world-class HPC performance to solve their most difficult computational challenges."

"PLX ExpressLane PCI Express Gen3 switch technology -- empowered by high-speed throughput of eight gigatransfers per second, per lane, in full duplex mode -- enables a wide range of applications, including ultra-high-performance dual-GPU traffic management, and meets the demanding requirements of inter-connectivity within the box, while becoming a box-to-box favorite among industry leaders," said Gene Schaefer, executive vice president, worldwide sales, PLX Technology.  "One Stop Systems' High Density Compute Accelerator -- whose connection to powerful NVIDIA GPUs and other system elements are made possible by 23 ExpressLane switches -- is an excellent example of three industry leaders in their respective fields delivering on innovation."

Easy installation

Installation is made easier by the modularity of the appliance. The HDCA consists of the rackmount chassis, three modular power supplies, four pre-loaded canisters, and the front bezel. Each canister is preloaded with four NVIDIA Tesla K40, K20, or K10 GPU accelerators. Ample cooling is provided by a fan located on the front of each canister plus four exhaust fans mounted on the rear of the enclosure. The canisters and power supplies slide into the front of the chassis and the front bezel snaps into place. One to four servers are then cabled to the rear of the enclosure. Each connection operates at aggregated Gen3 speeds of 128Gb/s.

System monitoring

An internal system monitor provides system operation data, including fan operation, voltages, and temperature at several points in the enclosure. A remote interface is provided through the Ethernet port on the rear of the enclosure. An optional Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) module is available for operators who wish to collect system data through the IPMI bus.
