Press release date: October 4, 2011

Tokyo, Japan - Omron Network Products, LLC (ONP), the leading manufacturer of VoF (Video over Fiber) modules, announced today the demonstration of 4K video transmission over 300m. The demonstration at the CEATEC show in Tokyo pits a Beta version of Omron's new SX4-series module using a single, 300m strand of fiber against a 6m-long, High Speed HDMI(TM) cable.

Omron displayed several types of bidirectional and unidirectional optical modules, all specifically designed to transmit HD video and data - such as USB and Ethernet - over long distances on a single strand of optical fiber. "We believe this is an industry first" said Brian Peters, President of Omron Network Products who touted that the Omron SX module transmits 4K video flawlessly over 300m. Mr. Peters said that the CEATEC show in Tokyo, which is focused on the Consumer Electronics industry, was a great place to show how quickly ONP's technology is being pulled towards CE applications. "ONP's patented technology puts us in a position to dominate the Consumer Electronics market, which is seeing explosive demand for a variety of fiber-based solutions. Look at the recent introduction of LightpeakTM and you will see we're all heading down a similar path, except we use one fiber instead of four." In addition to using fewer fibers, Omron's CWDM technology also enables low-power transmission of video, which is of particular importance to the Japanese Consumer Electronic (CE) industry.

Martin Smith, ONP's Director of Marketing went on to say "This is a fun demo showing the superior video quality of fiber transmission over 300m compared to a 6m copper connection. The difference is clearly measurable". ONP has several new products launching in the next 12 months, all of which have the largest bandwidth and lowest power consumption available in the video industry. "We're seeing a lot of demand to transmit DVI, HDMI(TM), Display Port(TM), and other high-definition video in consumer applications, and ONP is leading the way to bring solutions to this market", Mr. Smith said.
