Press release date: November 13, 2006

Center Valley , PA, November 13, 2006 - The newest member of the high-performance Olympus DP microscope camera series is the DP25, which offers outstanding color rendition and 5-megapixel imaging. Designed for fast and easy documentation, publication, and image analysis requirements when high-resolution detail is essential, the camera offers an impressive full-resolution (2560 x 1920 pixels) live image preview at a frame rate of 8.4 frames per second (fps). Excellent image quality, speed and ease of use make the DP25 a sound choice for a broad range of scientific applications.

In contrast to other 5-megapixel microscope cameras' slower rates of 2-to-6 fps, the DP25 stands in a class by itself, outperforming all major competitive cameras and allowing researchers to streamline their workflow with its enhanced performance and flexibility. Other readout options include a video-rate 30-fps mode, a progressive scan mode (1280 x 960 pixels), and binning options that are designed for careful framing and focusing.

The imaging sensor is a 2/3" 5-megapixel interline Bayer mask CCD. FireWire connectivity makes the camera easy to set up and use in the laboratory. Four image resolutions are available: 2560 x 1920, 1280 x 960, 854 x 640, and 640 x 480. Image file formats include TIFF, JPEG, JPEG2000, AVI, and Photoshop.

A host of top-of-the-line live image functions round out the DP25's outstanding performance. These include live shading correction, brightness and contrast adjustments, and pseudo-coloring. A full frame image can be displayed on the monitor, facilitating observation of fine detail. Users can also preview and optimize image quality before acquisition, minimizing post-image processing.

The D25 camera is operated with the new Olympus DP2-BSW software, which makes it easy for users to acquire images and manage files. Descriptive metadata is automatically attached to every image and a user-defined sample name and descriptions may also be added. Annotation, simple interactive measurements, post-acquisition image enhancement tools and other features provide even more functionality.

With optional MicroSuite(TM) FIVE software and the Olympus NetCam, DP25 users can share images easily with colleagues or students in other locations. Broadcasting images for consultation or training is simple. Up to 50 remote client computers can simultaneously log on and view a live or captured image using a standard web browser. The primary user can manually or automatically adjust the microscope and camera parameters; capture, annotate, and send images; and control access by remote users.
