Oklahoma Gas & Electric Selects Energate for Expanding Smart Grid Deployment

70 MW Peak Reduction Goal in 2012 Based on Results of Pilot

WASHINGTON, -- AUTOVATION 2011-- Energate, Inc., a leading provider of residential demand response technologies for utilities, today announced it will be supplying its Smart Thermostats for Oklahoma Gas and Electric's 2012 residential demand response program through its partner, Silver Spring Networks. This builds on the previously announced pilot results undertaken in Oklahoma.

"OG&E has set significant 2012 goals for both peak demand reduction as well as consumer adoption, reducing the need for new power plants" said Mike Farrell, director, customer programs at OG&E. "Energate has proven its performance and reliability as a partner over the last two years. Working with them gives us the confidence we will meet our objectives for 2012 and beyond."

Energate's in-home technologies allow consumers to easily program their use preferences based on peak pricing signals sent from utilities. Over 25 utilities throughout North America have utilized Energate's next-generation technologies in their Smart Grid applications. Energate's home energy controls, portals and software solutions provide two-way, reliable communications that allows consumers and utilities to manage energy demand.

"We have been working with OG&E and our partner Silver Spring Networks for over two years to ensure that OG&E has a solution that includes our in-home devices," said Niraj Bhargava, Energate co-founder and CEO. "We are very pleased that OG&E selected our proven technology for this step toward full deployment. Market validation like this confirms Energate's belief that the home energy management industry must deliver consumer products that work safely and consistently, are easy to use, and are integrated with the utility's operations."

OG&E's 2012 expansion is targeted to include up to 40,000 residences utilizing Energate's Pioneer Smart Thermostat and accessories.

"OG&E's demand response program is certainly one of the most advanced initiatives in the industry to date," said Pike Research Senior Analyst Marianne Hedin. "The fact that Energate has been selected for this deployment in this far-reaching energy reduction program is a strong indicator that the company is poised to benefit from the fast-growing demand response services market in North America, which Pike Research forecasts will grow by more than 38 percent annually over the next five years. "

Farrell and Bhargava will be presenting business models and results at Autovation 2011 on the "Captivating Consumers' Heads and Hearts Gets Demand Response--What's Working" panel being held at the Gaylord National Convention Center on September 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the Maryland Ballroom. Energate will also be showcasing its technologies at Booth #423 at Autovation.
