OPTOCODE Rotary Encoders: Precision Measurements for the Toughest Environments

Hamilton, New Jersey, - POSITAL's OPTOCODE (OCD) absolute rotary encoders combine highly accurate measurement technologies with heavy-duty packaging, making them a great choice for motion control systems that operate in harsh environments such as construction equipment, off- and on-road vehicles, military equipment, or marine and off-shore applications. Seals on the shaft and electrical connections are rated at IP67 (similar to NE-MA 4 & 6/6P) offer protection from dust and moisture. These devices are avail-able with SAE J1939 and CANopen interfaces for vehicle or mobile application. Other interface options include serial (SSI), bit-parallel, DeviceNet, and Ethernet (ProfiNet, Ethernet/IP and MODBUS).

The optical measurement system in OCD encoders is built around an unbreakable plastic code disk and provides a resolution of 16,384 steps per turn, significantly higher than encoders based on magnetic measurement techniques. Moreover, the optical system isn't affected by electro-magnetic fields from nearby welders, motors, transformers etc. Multi-turn models have a range of 4,096 revolutions.
