OPC Foundation Announces OPC Test and Certification Program

Certification Becomes Key Benefit of OPC Foundation Membership

Scottsdale, AZ - The OPC Foundation today introduced the OPC Unified Architecture (OPC UA) Test and Certification Program for products from OPC Foundation Corporate Members. This new membership benefit is a result of the increasing adoption of OPC UA technology and the OPC Foundation's commitment to interoperability and ease-of-use for OPC UA products.

Certification of an OPC UA product establishes credibility and ensures that the product is fully compliant with the OPC UA Specifications. Certification provides assurance that tested products can successfully interoperate with other OPC Foundation member products providing end-users with the confidence to utilize best-of-breed OPC UA solutions. OPC Foundation members gain the benefit of ensuring that their OPC UA products follow OPC Foundation "Best Practices" as they prepare their products for the marketplace.

"It is all a matter of value," said Thomas Burke, President and Executive Director of the OPC Foundation. "We at the OPC Foundation want to continue to reinforce that we are a member driven organization that is completely dedicated to assisting the success of its members in developing OPC UA products. One of the many benefits of being a member of the OPC Foundation is the OPC UA Product Test and Certification Program, which solidifies OPC Unified Architecture as the de facto industrial communications standard."

The number of OPC UA products tested will be in accordance with an individual company's type of membership and the testing will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis. All testing will be conducted in the North American Test Lab in Scottsdale, AZ and will begin in the second quarter of 2011. Interested parties should contact the OPC Foundation Test Lab directly to begin the testing process.

"OPC Foundation Lab Certification is something that every end-user should demand of their OPC vendors," says Nathan Pocock, Director of Compliance. "Products awarded the Lab Certification logo will not only be tested for function and performance but will also be tested against other OPC Foundation products to ensure interoperability. End-users have been asking for Lab Certification for years and they can now rest assured that certified products will have been thoroughly tested."
