OMRON Automation and Safety's NX Safety Controller Honored as a Winner in the 2013 Design News Golden Mousetrap Awards

Controllers promote seamless integration of safety and other automation disciplines, NX Series Safety Controllers have been selected as a Golden Mousetrap Award Winner in the Automation and Controls category

SCHAUMBURG, IL – OMRON Automation and Safety announces that NX Series Safety Controllers have been selected as a Golden Mousetrap Award Winner in the Automation and Controls category. The Omron NX Series represents a breakthrough by combining automation and safety on the same EtherCAT® network in a mixed I/O backplane to promote design flexibility and minimize wiring costs. The Awards celebrate the companies, products, and people who are energizing North American design, engineering, and manufacturing. The Golden Mousetrap Awards, sponsored by UBM Canon, publisher of Design News, were announced at the Golden Mousetraps Ceremony held during the Pacific Design & Manufacturing Show in Anaheim, Calif., Tuesday, February 11.

Design News' industry leading editors worked tirelessly to go through the many entries received to come up with the products most deserving to be on the list of finalists. The finalist entries were then sent to the entire editorial team, as well as their distinguished Advisory Board who chose the winners. The Design News Golden Mousetrap Awards has been honoring excellence for more than two decades. From the hundreds of entries the Design News Content Team and Advisory Board selected 55 finalists in 15 categories. Finalists represent the best products, technologies and services that were brought to market in 2013.

Why NX Safety Controller was chosen as a Winner

"The NX Safety Controller is a particularly exciting introduction because, in combination with our new NX I/O system and Sysmac NJ Controllers, it represents a decisive step towards the complete integration of safety, logic, motion and vision disciplines – and it does so in one software platform (Sysmac Studio), on one network (EtherCAT) and in one control system (Sysmac NJ Controller)," says Matt Dodds, Product Marketing Manager – Safety, OMRON Automation and Safety.

The NX series combines automation and safety on the same EtherCAT® network in a mixed I/O backplane to promote design flexibility and minimize wiring costs. A single intuitive software programming environment reduces machine and safety design time, while an auto configuration restart function eliminates the need for tools or software to exchange I/O hardware. The result is a seamlessly integrated solution that helps maximize machine flexibility, safety and productivity for the total machine lifecycle.

Their functionality and flexibility make these safety controllers ideally suited for applications such as automotive robotic work cells, larger flexible packaging machines and material handling work cells with multiple access points.
