Dewitt, NY - With the uncertainty of business world over the last two years, the marketplace has gained a new level of respect for those companies that have demonstrated staying power. Without a doubt, gases and welding distributor O.E. Meyer Co. is one such organization. The Sandusky, Ohio, company's record of reliability is the focus of the latest member profile in the Winter 2011 issue of Welding & Gases Today.
Since its founding in 1918, O.E. Meyer Co. has remained strong in the face of several major changes. For a company that went from a welding shop to a full-service welding and medical equipment distributorship, one could expect some growing pains. The company has continued to grow steadily throughout its history-tripling in size over the last 20 years. This growth has all been organic, with no mergers or acquisitions.
CEO Rodney Belden credits the O.E. Meyer's consistency in part to the company's ability to develop and retain great employees who care about the customer. "Almost all of our managers, including our two division presidents, started out on the ground floor," says Belden. "That lets our employees know how committed we are to them. Add that to the sense of ownership that the ESOP program provides, and it is a recipe for success."
