POSTVILLE, IA - Norplex-Micarta, the leading manufacturer of high performance thermoset composites, has recently installed a TA Instruments Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer (DMA), Model Q800. The equipment measures the flexural strength of a material at high temperatures and is used to test material prior to shipping in order to guarantee that it meets customer specifications. The DMA system is one of several recent capital expenditures Norplex-Micarta has made to ensure that customers are offered premium manufacturing and testing services.
The DMA system tests a 1" wide sample of material that is held in place by a clamp on each end. The material is then gradually brought up to temperatures reaching 250°C. As the temperature rises, the clamps vibrate continuously, measuring the physical changes of the material. Determining at what temperature the material softens when exposed to heat is important for high-performance applications, as it ensures the composite will maintain dimensional stability at high temperatures.
Testing can be conducted on most Norplex-Micarta thermoset composite materials. Norplex-Micarta composites are used in various electrical, construction, oil and gas, military, and power generation applications.
