Nonmetallic Inclusion Rating Workshop invites presentations.

January 13, 2012 - Scheduled for Nov 14, 2012, Nonmetallic Inclusion Rating workshop will address current status of ASTM E04 standards: E45, E1245, and E2283 as well as uses and abuses and applicability issues. Topics may also include new developments in inclusion rating, future of inclusion rating, use of inclusion rating in fatigue life prediction of steel parts, and use of inclusion rating as tool for quality control, process improvement, and/or failure analysis in ferrous and non-ferrous materials.

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., -Presentations are invited for a workshop on Nonmetallic Inclusion Rating, to be held Nov. 14, 2012, at the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta, Ga. Sponsored by Committee E04 on Metallography, the workshop is being held in conjunction with the November standards development meetings of the committee. The topics may include, but are not limited to, the following subjects:
o Current status of ASTM E04 standards: E45, E1245, E2283; their uses and abuses, applicability issues, etc.;
o Use of other related standards (ISO, EN, DIN, JIS, etc.);
o New developments in inclusion rating, especially those using automated image analysis tools.
o Use of inclusion rating as a tool for quality control, process improvement, and/or failure analysis in both ferrous and non-ferrous materials;
o The use of inclusion rating in fatigue life prediction of steel parts; and
o The future of inclusion rating - where are we headed? This workshop may be of interest to the following groups, though any interested individual from the general public is encouraged to attend: metallurgists, metallographers, manufacturing engineers, members of academia and research scientists/staff. With the author's permission, the presentation or the written report based on the presentation will be made available for download on Committee E04's website, but it will not be officially published by ASTM in either print or electronic form.
