PITTSBURGH, PA - May 2, 2012 - Nicholson and long-time partner E.E. Cruz have recently been awarded an additional JV contract for the Columbia University Manhattanville project.
The new contract includes the construction of approximately 208,000 square feet of diaphragm wall, which will surround the School of Arts, Business School, School of International and Public Affairs and the Academic Conference Center.
The E.E. Cruz/Nicholson Joint Venture has been working at Columbia since 2011, when they were awarded the foundation and basement contract for the first phase of the site's development.
The owner of the project is Columbia University and the General Contractor is Bovis Lend Lease. "We are extremely pleased to continue our work with E.E. Cruz," said Laurent Lefebvre, Executive Vice President of Nicholson. "This is an impressive project that is bringing together some of the best companies in the business, and we are proud to be a part of it."
The $6.4 billion Manhattanville project spans 17 acres, and when completed, will include 16 new buildings and more than 6.8 million square feet of space for teaching, research, student housing, underground parking and support services.
It is anticipated that this project will create thousands of jobs in the area, including 6,000 within the university alone. The initial phase of development is projected to end in 2016. The entire project is slated for completion in early 2030.
