Nashua, NH - January 21, 2008 - NextComputing, leaders in high-performance portable computing, have increased the already impressive storage performance of their mobile computers by adding new high-speed hard drives from Seagate Technology. Seagate's 500GB Momentus® 7200 RPM SATA drives, and Savvio® 300GB 10K RPM and 147GB 15K RPM SAS drives are now available on all NextDimension flextops and Vigor rugged portables.
The new faster spin rate Savvio® SAS drives with 10K and 15K RPM technology allow a higher level of sustained data rates with fewer drives. This is particularly relevant to users in the Military, Test & Measurement, and Broadcast & Digital Media industries where high speed data transfer rates are essential across a number of applications. For example, recording and playback of uncompressed HD or higher resolution video requires very fast data throughput to read and write frames to the disk.
Savvio® 10K and 15K RPM drives boost the performance of this type of application and reduce the number of drives needed in a RAID subsystem, in turn, maximizing productivity and decreasing overall hardware investment. The drives are the first to operate at a 6-Gb/s transfer rate and provide more transactional performance density than any other drive. Savvio® reinforces NextComputing's aim to bring enterprise class computing to the small form factor computing appliance, by incorporating features of enterprise class 3.5" drives in the smaller, 2.5" package.
The addition of Momentus® 500GB drives maximizes the removable storage options on both the NextDimension Evo and Vigor Evo systems. Up to 4 removable hard drives are available, with a total capacity of 2TB, unprecedented on a portable workstation. The Seagate® Momentus® drives deliver the highest available capacity on a portable computer hard drive while satisfying today's need for desktop performance. Removable drives at this capacity enable convenient storage, maintenance, and OS swapping as needed.
All hard drive options are available in various configurations on the NextDimension Pro, Pro HD, Evo, and Evo HD, as well as the Vigor Pro SD and Vigor Evo HD models.
