Next ANSI Chemical Network Online Discussion Scheduled for April 18



The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Chemical Network Online Discussion, an informal, hour-long information exchange involving representatives of industry, academia, government agencies, and other stakeholders, has announced that it will hold its monthly discussion beginning at 10:30 a.m EDT on Thursday, April 18, 2013.



The discussion will be co-moderated by Michael Kirschner of ENVIRON International Corporation and Dr. Richard J. Forselius of United Technology Company’s Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation. Dr. Lauren Heine, consulting co-director for Clean Production Action and the director of its GreenScreen Program, will take part in the discussion as a guest speaker. Dr. Heine will discuss the GreenScreen Program, providing an overview of how manufacturers are making use of it to screen potential chemical alternatives against hazard criteria, and will give an update on its current status.



During the discussion, a variety of chemical-related subjects are expected to be raised. Expected topics areas for discussion include:



Conflict minerals and the supply chain

Rare earth metals and related source-of-supply issues

The European Union’s Regulatory Framework for the Management of Chemicals (REACH)

Updates from relevant standards developing organizations (SDOs)

Chemicals policy in India
