Free upgrade is made available for EWMS1000 wireless media streamer customers

HUNTSVILLE, AL June 7, 2006 - Avocent Corporation (NASDAQ: AVCT), a leading provider of audio-visual connectivity and control solutions, today announced a new product upgrade for the Avocent Emerge(TM) EWMS1000 wireless media streamer which consists of a serial software upgrade that provides enhanced RS-232 control of the EWMS1000 wireless media streamer transmitter and EWMS1000 wireless media streamer receiver. Users of the EWMS1000 media streamer can upgrade to the new serial software by simply flashing existing units.

The Avocent serial upgrade allows users to upgrade remote EWMS1000 receivers without having to attach a laptop via a serial cable to each receiver. It permits users to change country code to obtain maximum legal transmission power and available bands. Users can configure the operation parameters of the unit without having to learn complicated programming techniques or use external configuration software. The new upgrade also allows users to switch video input preferences very easily.

"The addition of wireless RS-232 enhances the EWMS1000 wireless media streamer to better address the needs of the digital signage market," said Mitch Friend, senior vice president and general manager of Avocent. "This upgrade offers a video switching component that gives users a powerful command and control tool."

The Emerge EWMS1000 wireless media streamer can be deployed in either a point-to-point (extension) or point-to-multipoint (broadcast) configuration. It delivers full motion streaming video and audio to multiple display devices, and provides support for multiple input/output formats including Component, S-Video, Composite Video, VGA computer video, RS-232 control, and stereo audio.

Demonstrations of the Avocent RS-232 command and control upgrade for the EWMS1000 will take place in the Avocent booth (#1940) at InfoComm, in Orlando, FL, June 7-9.
