Vista, CA, February 23, 2010 - Eaton Leonard Tooling, Inc., a leading manufacturer of tube and pipe bender tooling, is pleased to announce the availability of a new process for mandrels called Ultra Glide. In development for over two years, this process has been shown to increase the life of existing aluminum bronze mandrels used in the rotary draw tube bending industry. This increased life decreases tooling costs, eliminates some set up costs, and reduces machine down time.
The new Ultra Glide uses special materials and proprietary processing and works well with mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminized stainless steel. Using Ultra Glide mandrels saves money over the long term despite the higher initial costs. Cost savings are realized by their ability to withstand long term use -- they last as much as four times longer than conventional bronze mandrels.
Sam Davis, President of Tube Technologies, uses these mandrels and states "The mandrels cost more upfront, but with the savings in tooling costs, set up labor, and reduced down time, they are definitely worth it. Since we implemented these Ultra Glide mandrels, we have seen literally no wear on them and we have been using them for almost two years."
Ultra Glide is also suited for other applications, such as end forming.
