Tech3 Manufacturing Company recently provided two of its Model P30 Flexible Screw Conveyors to a Solar Panel Manufacturer, which had a requirement that no metallic contact could be present within its process. This option was deemed necessary to maintain the high purity state of the silicon dust being conveyed. Beyond this particular industrial application this option has further uses in food, chemical and pharmaceutical processing applications.

These unique high capacity heavy duty 3 inch flexible screw conveyors included inlet hoppers, hopper top covers, outer casings, drive boxes, drive box top covers and discharge transitions all manufactured and seam welded with natural UHMW-PE (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene Plastic). The flat wire auger was coated with DuPont(TM) Tefzel® ETFE Resin to ensure that the Silicon Dust being conveyed did not have any direct contact with a metal surface. Finally the conveyors were designed with no metal fasteners being used in product contact areas. Metal frameworks were used to provide structural support for the UHMW-PE inlet hoppers and drive boxes. Quick release T-handle compression couplings clamp the outer casing to the inlet hopper and the drive box assemblies to allow easy disassembly and reassembly of the conveyor.

The 3.5 cubic foot inlet hopper 28 inches square x 30 inches tall included a plastic Tri-Clamp clean out end cap, 6 inch long UHMW-PE end probe to center the auger within the inlet hopper boot assembly, 30º pickup angle, 304 stainless steel metal support frame and a bolted UHMW-PE top cover. The bolted top cover incorporated a 12 inch diameter ring x 3 inches tall to allow a bulk bag to discharge the silicon dust directly into the inlet hopper. To contain any potential fugitive dust a 3 inch diameter x 3 inch tall dust vent was included.

The drive box included a bolted top access cover, 6 inch diameter x 45º discharge transition, and 304 stainless steel frame work to support the drive box, 5:1 ratio multiplier and 1.5 HP explosion proof motor @ 1750 rpm. The auger speed based upon the motor RPM and ratio multiplier reduction was 360 rpm.

Tech3 Manufacturing Company builds standard and custom designed Flexible Screw Conveyors based upon customer requirements. In addition we manufactured a wide range of replacement augers and casings for all Flexible Screw Conveyor makes and models. And finally we provide UHMW-PE weldments such as complete hopper assemblies, and inlet or discharge chutes as a replacement for metal structures.
