DSL has introduced a range of new System on Module (SoM) products along with specialist SoM design services for fast-turnaround custom development. The new VDX-200RD-PCI-B is DSL's smallest SoM, measuring just 48mm by 48mm. With PCI Bus expansion, the fanless SoM features the 800MHz Vortex86DX CPU along with 256MB or 512MB RAM and a 10/100Mbps LAN, plus five serial ports and four USB 2.0 Ports for flexible connectivity. 512MB onboard flash memory is provided for application storage whist power consumption is a mere 330mA from a single +5V supply, making the VDX-200RD-PCI-B ideal for low power embedded applications.
Also new from DSL is the VSX-304-PI-B, a powerful low power SoM with onboard graphics and PCI or ISA Expansion. The fanless 300MHz Vortex86SX CPU with 128MB / 256MB DDR 2 onboard RAM also offers an integrated 10/100Mbps LAN, four serial ports and four USB 2.0 ports.
In addition to new SoM products, DSL also offers SoM design services for low power embedded systems development. Prototype projects can be turned round in just six weeks - half the time it would take an in-house group to deliver a custom board. "We undertake designs using ComExpress and ETX modules but increasingly employ SoM modules such as the VDX-200RD and VSX-304 as they provide the perfect balance of price, size and performance for a wide range of applications," says Derek Carpenter, managing director at DSL.
