New Power Plant in Turkey Uses GE Technology to Help Meet the Country's Growing Energy Demands

o GE's Success with Palmet Enerji's First Mid-Merit Plant Leads to Second Project

o Flexibility and Reliability of GE's Technology Key to Project Success

o GE Technology Provides 30 Percent of Turkey's Total Electricity Generation

HOUSTON, TEXAS- The success of GE's (NYSE: GE) aeroderivative gas turbine technology at Palmet Enerji's plant in Kýrklareli, Turkey, has led Palmet Enerji to a second project in Aydýn, Turkey. The latest project is further evidence of GE's commitment to help provide reliable and flexible power to help the country meet its growing energy demand.

Turkey's total population is 76.5 million and is expected to rise to 79.1 million by 2015. In 2010, power consumption rose to 209 million megawatt hours (MWh) and is expected to reach 222 million MWh this year. Between 2011 and 2020, Business Monitor International forecasts an increase in Turkish electricity generation of 52.3 percent.

GE has more than 300 gas, hydro, steam and wind turbines installed or on order in Turkey, which make up 8,200 MW of total capacity in the country. While GE's power generation equipment installed represents only about 18 percent of the country's total installed capacity, more than 31 percent of Turkey's consumption of electricity is generated by the GE fleet.

""Based on the success of our first plant, we chose GE technology again for our second mid-merit plant due to its ability to achieve maximum efficiency, excellent environmental performance and flexibility and because of its capability for quick daily startups." said Doðanay Samuray, CEO, Palmet Enerji.

Under the scope of the project, GE will provide one LM6000-PC SPRINT aeroderivative gas turbine generator package and a GE Thermodyn steam turbine for the site in Aydin. The new mid-merit plant is owned by Ales Enerji, which is a company created by and 100 percent owned by Palmet Enerji. Mid-merit units are modern, efficient power plants that can come online quickly in response to increases in the demand for power.

"Our LM6000 aeroderivative gas turbine features high efficiency and fuel flexibility, coupled with lower emissions and water usage. In addition, it is approved under ecomagination, GE's commitment to invest in a future that creates innovative solutions to global environmental challenges," said Darryl Wilson, vice president-aeroderivative gas turbines for GE Power & Water. "GE's world-class aeroderivative gas turbine technology is key to this important project, which will help provide power for Turkey's growing energy infrastructure needs,"

The 60-MW plant will have a 51 percent combined-cycle efficiency and will lower NOx emissions by 74 percent through the use of demineralized water. Commercial operation is planned for the 3rd Quarter of 2012.

On January 14, 2011, GE announced that it had shipped its 1,000th LM6000 gas turbine to Black Hills Corp. as part of its Pueblo Airport Generation Station being constructed in Pueblo, Colo. GE's 1,000 LM6000 gas turbines produced to date have accumulated 21.8 million operating hours for 260 customers in 43 countries on six different continents, including in 37 of the 50 United States.

Palmet Enerji's principle operating sectors are in natural gas and power generation. It operates extensively in the natural gas sector where it owns two city gas distribution licenses. It has its own licensed gas wholesale trading company and also is very active in the provision of EPC services and gas network support operations. In the power sector, it has rapidly developing interests in wind, hydro, power generation and now also has its own gas fired combined-cycle power plant.
