Press release date: March 26, 2008

March 26, 2008

(Bristol, VA) In response to increasing demand for large pultruded products, Strongwell Corporation has increased its pultrusion capacity for these products in its Bristol, Virginia plant. Strongwell's Machine Group designed and built a 60" wide, 40,000 pounds pull force machine in 2007. Production on this new machine began in January 2008. Strongwell's new 60" pultrusion machine is capable of pultruding fiberglass plate up to 1" thick and 60" wide as well as large custom pultrusions such as sheet piling, custom designed wide panels, and various other wide profiles requiring large pulling capacity. The addition of this 60" wide pultrusion machine gives Strongwell five pultrusion machines capable of pultruding 48" wide to 60" wide profiles and plate.

In February 2008, Strongwell also installed a new 36" wide, 40,000 pounds pulling force pultrusion machine built by Process Design Associates of Dayton, Ohio in its Bristol, Virginia plant. This large capacity pultrusion machine was added to Strongwell's capabilities as a result of increasing demand for large custom pultruded profiles from the construction market and military market. The new machine is capable of pultruding Crane Materials International's new 36" wide box style sheet piling as well as other large, heavy pultruded profiles.

The demand for fiber reinforced polymer composite (FRP) materials to replace traditional construction materials is a continuing trend in both the United States and globally. Strongwell expects the trend toward larger, more complex profiles for large infrastructure and commercial building projects as well as increasing demand for wide composite plates for various US Department of Defense programs to continue. Future pultrusion capacity additions will be implemented as market demand requires.

Headquartered in Bristol, Virginia, Strongwell has pultrusion manufacturing facilities in Bristol, Virginia, Washington County, Virginia and Chatfield, Minnesota. Strongwell is a financially strong, privately-held company, producing products including structural shapes, grating, handrail, structural building panels, decking systems, composite armor, ladder rail, and many OEM products for its diverse customer base.
