New Instrument Calibration Portal from GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies

GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies has created a new instrument calibration management portal, which can be accessed free-of-charge by users of GE's aluminium oxide moisture probes. The on-line web portal will help probe users, technicians and metrologists to achieve more efficient and effective organization of moisture probe data. It will also allow the printing of calibration data sheets and will provide notification of future recommended calibration dates.
Aluminium oxide moisture probes provide an excellent solution for measuring moisture content in many process and industrial applications. As with many process instruments, it is, however, essential to recalibrate at regular intervals to ensure measurement accuracy and optimal instrument performance. The calibration cycle for individual probes is user-defined, based on preference, needs and specific application. When users register with the new portal, they can choose to receive e-mail notification of when probes are due for recalibration.
As Narge Sparages, GE global product manager for Flow, Gas, & Moisture Service Solutions, comments, "Until now our customers have struggled to find a tool that lets them specify the calibration schedule for each individual probe, while flagging up reminders when recalibrations are due. The new portal allows users to add information pertinent to their own installation, change the calibration cycle and view and sort data preferentially."
GE provides moisture probe recalibration services globally. Recalibration includes cleaning contaminants from the probes, placing the probes into the calibration system, and exposing them to precisely generated moisture contents throughout the dynamic range of the sensor. The calibration facilities use flow, temperature and pressure measurement devices, traceable to national standards, to generate the moisture concentration calibration gases. All sensor data is taken by and stored in computers dedicated to these calibration systems.
For typical applications, GE recommends recalibration on a twelve-month cycle. Regulatory requirements, criticality of the measurement, and application-specific contaminants may suggest a different calibration frequency.
