New Incidental Food Contact Lubricants Ease
Assembly Operations Involving Rubber or Rubber Parts

Burlington, New Jersey, USA: International Products Corporation (IPC) has added two incidental food contact lubricants to its line of P-80® Temporary Rubber Lubricants. P-80® Emulsion IFC and P-80® THIX IFC meet FDA regulation 21 CFR 178.3570, which controls lubricants used in incidental food contact applications, such as appliance or pump assembly.
A thin film of P-80® IFC will provide temporary lubrication and reduce the force needed to install a tight-fitting rubber part. Typical applications for P-80 Emulsion IFC and P-80 THIX IFC include assembly operations involving: o-rings, grommets, seals, washers, hoses, stoppers, diaphragms, and plugs. The lubrication that P-80 IFC provides is temporary. Once it dries, the normal non-slip condition of the rubber returns. Surfaces should not become slippery again, even in the presence of moisture. P-80 IFC products meet the FDA regulation for Lubricants With Incidental Food Contact, so they can be used for assembling rubber components in food processing equipment, pumps, dishwashers, washing machines, coffeemakers and other items that may come into contact with food items.

P-80® Emulsion IFC, which has the viscosity of milk and P-80® THIX IFC, a thixotropic gel with a higher viscosity, are both easily applied by manual or automatic methods, including brush, bath, spray, sponge, squirt, or pump techniques. Like all P-80 products, P-80 Emulsion IFC and P-80 THIX IFC are non-hazardous and offer ergonomic benefits to workers. By reducing the force needed to install parts, they help increase production, reduce damaged parts, and decrease musculoskeletal injuries to workers. They are compatible with most metals, plastics, and elastomers. Unlike many other lubricants, P-80 products do not contain petroleum distillates, so they will not dry out or harden rubber; and unlike silicon-based products, P-80 is temporary and more economical to use. Both IFC products have low volatile organic compounds (VOCs), are non-toxic, non-flammable, do not contain any carcinogenic or mutagenic ingredients, and have a near-neutral pH. When used as directed, there are no known health hazards.
In addition to its line of P-80® lubricants, IPC manufactures a full-line of safe, powerful cleaners for the industrial, pharmaceutical, filtration, academic, and laboratory markets. Incorporated in 1923, IPC has offices in the USA and the United Kingdom, as well as distributors throughout the world. The company's quality system is ISO-Certified.
