New 400-Ton Press Greatly Enhances Rod Production at Norplex-Micarta

POSTVILLE, IA - Norplex-Micarta, the leading manufacturer of high performance thermoset composites, announces the addition of a multi-cavity 400-Ton Press for molding rods, which will allow the company to manufacture multiple rods at once. As a result of the increased throughput, delivery lead times for rod products have been reduced significantly.

The 400-Ton Press achieves increased efficiency through platens that are heated by hot oil, instead of electricity. Oil-heated platens achieve optimal molding temperatures more quickly than electrical platens, thereby reducing manufacturing time. In addition, the various steps involved in processing rods have been located in closer proximity to each other, further improving throughput. The number of rods that the 400-Ton Press can actually create during each manufacturing cycle depends on the size of the rod diameter that is being manufactured.

To meet its commitment to deliver quality products, Norplex-Micarta has fine-tuned each production cycle. Through tight process control, the 400-Ton Press produces close tolerance rods with diameters ranging from 0.125" - 5".
