NatureFlexT Packaging Adopted By Caturra Coffee

Innovia Films' cellulose NatureFlexT compostable films are reinforcing Caturra Coffee's commitment to high quality standards and sustainability philosophy.

Caturra who are South African coffee roasting specialist sought advice from Natural Pack a local distributor with a vision for a greener South Africa, about making their packaging match their coffee ethics.  Working in collaboration with Colpak a local converter, new coffee packs were developed for Caturra coffee. These packs were specifically developed using NatureFlexT renewable compostable films in their construction.

Mike Palos, Operations Manager of Caturra Coffee commented "We are proud that Caturra is always first when it comes to being innovative as a leader in the coffee industry in South Africa. Our commitment is together with sustainable business practices to supply our coffee in environmentally friendly packaging."

The coffee pack structure is made using three-layers, which comprises a printable, transparent barrier layer NatureFlexT NK 20µm film on the outer layer, a metallised high barrier layer NatureFlexT NKME 20µm in middle layer and a 50µm Bio-Polymer sealant layer which provides high seal strength and integrity.

John Fox Managing Director of Natural Pack commented "Once the coffee packs are made and printed by Colpak, Caturra fills and seals them with its gourmet coffee range sourced from exotic locations around the globe. These coffee packs offer good barrier to moisture and oxygen preserving the coffees distinctive aroma and taste and, also provides the shelf life that Caturra coffee requires.  Adding to this bag's success, it recently won 'Certificate of Excellence Most Innovative Product' at the Green Expo, held in Cape Town".

NatureFlexT films are certified to meet the American ASTM D6400, European EN13432 and Australian AS4736 standards for compostable packaging.  The wood-pulp is sourced from managed plantations.  The renewable biobased content of NatureFlexT films is typically 95% by weight of material according to ASTM D6866.  NatureFlexT films offer advantages for packing and converting such as inherent deadfold and anti-static properties, high gloss and resistance to grease and oil, good barrier to gases, aromas and mineral oils, high barrier to moisture vapour  and a wide heat-seal range.  It is also easy to print and laminate.

Peter Van Belle, Area Sales Manager, Innovia Films stated "NatureFlexT Films are well suited for the coffee market because they fit well with concerns about sustainability and renewability.  The environment continues to be high on the agenda in the packaging market, and coffee products that are certified by organisations such as Rainforest Alliance are a "good fit" with more sustainable packaging."
