Controllers promote seamless integration of safety and other automation disciplines

The Omron NX Series represents a breakthrough by combining automation and safety on the same EtherCAT® network in a mixed I/O backplane to promote design flexibility and minimize wiring costs. The Golden Mousetrap Awards, sponsored by UBM Canon, publisher of Design News, were announced at a special ceremony held during the Pacific Design & Manufacturing Show in Anaheim, Calif., Tuesday, February 11. From the hundreds of entries received, the Design News Content Team and Advisory Board selected 55 finalists in 15 categories. Finalists represent the best products, technologies and services that were brought to market in 2013. The Design News Golden Mousetrap Awards program has been honoring excellence for more than two decades.

The NX series combines automation and safety on the same EtherCAT® network in a mixed I/O backplane to promote design flexibility and minimize wiring costs. A single intuitive software programming environment reduces machine and safety design time, while an auto configuration restart function eliminates the need for tools or software to exchange I/O hardware. The result is a seamlessly integrated solution that helps maximize machine flexibility, safety and productivity for the total machine lifecycle.Â
Their functionality and flexibility make these safety controllers ideally suited for applications such as automotive robotic work cells, larger flexible packaging machines and material handling work cells with multiple access points.
