NTSB Releases Factual Reports on Its Investigation of Tug/Barge and Tour Boat Collision in Philadelphia
In its continuing investigation of a collision involving a barge being towed and an amphibious passenger vehicle, the National Transportation Safety Board will open its public docket on Monday, March 7, 2011.
On Wednesday July 7, 2010, about 2:37 pm, the 250-foot-long empty sludge barge The Resource, which was being towed by the 79 foot-long towing vessel M/V Caribbean Sea, collided with the anchored amphibious small passenger vehicle the DUKW 34 in the Delaware River, near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. On board the DUKW 34 were 35 passengers and two crewmembers, and on board the Caribbean Sea were five crewmembers. Two passengers on the DUKW 34 died in the accident.
The docket will contain factual reports prepared by the investigative team, including interview transcripts, photographs and other documents from the investigation. Additional material will be added to the docket as it becomes available.
The docket will be published on the Board's website at www.ntsb.gov, under "Accident Dockets" on the home page, at 10:00 a.m. EST, Monday. No determination of cause will be rendered at this time. This is an information release only; no interviews will be conducted, and no analysis or commentary will be provided.
