NPE 2006 SME Conference Focuses On Productivity & Lean For Plastics Manufacturing

DEARBORN, Mich., April 12, 2006 - The Society of Manufacturing Engineers
(SME) announced today that its "Productivity & Lean Integration for Plastics
Manufacturing" conference will be held at NPE 2006 (National Plastics
Exposition) June 20-21 at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois.

In today's global marketplace, technology and productivity tools applied to
the plastics molding and manufacturing process have become increasingly
important for companies to remain competitive and maximize profitability.
Eight conference sessions will focus on the latest developments in injection
mold technology, mold design and moldmaking, rapid technology, lean
manufacturing, and product lifecycle management for the plastics enterprise.
Developed for plastics executive and manufacturing management,
engineering, and moldmaking management, the conference will provide
practical knowledge to support effective technology selection and application.

Featured topics include product design analysis, injection mold process
monitoring and control, hot runner technology, overmolding/multi-material
molding, RIM, in-mold coating, faster mold building through the use of
standardized components, direct digital manufacturing, silicone tooling for low
volume runs from urethane castings, driving continuous improvement through
real-time information, scientific injection molding, extreme molding
applications, automated process setup, lean manufacturing management
overview, lean manufacturing for the mold shop, standardized work in the
lean environment, and the perfect product launch.

A new educational partner for NPE, SME was invited by the NPE Education
Committee to provide an executive/manufacturing management complement
to the educational programming at NPE provided by other
associations. "SME's organization brings to the table knowledge on subjects
ranging from increasing profits through better productivity to lean
manufacturing for plastic processors and manufacturers. The SME experts
you can hear at NPE will help your business grow by combining business
savvy, common sense and technical expertise," said Barbara Arnold-Feret,
Conference Advisory Committee member and co-chair of SME's Plastics,
Composites & Coatings Community.
